Railways Reform Critical To Economic Revival, Says Saraki



President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki,said the reform of the Nation's Railways system is critical to the much needed economic revival in the country even as he reiterated the commitment of the 8th Senate towards the passage of the National Railways Commission Bill before the end of the first session of the 8th Senate.

 In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Senate President, Sanni Onogu, in Abuja, Saraki spoke after receiving the report of the Technical Committee on the National Railways Commission Bill from the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport, Senator Gbenga Ashafa in his office.

Senate Prioritize Sexual Harassment Bill Others


                                  
                
The senate on Tuesday resolved to ensure the speedy passage of the bill for an act to make provision for the prohibition of sexual harassment of students by Educators in Tertiary Educational Institutions sponsored by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and 57 other lawmakers.

Omo-Agege while presenting the bill for second reading decried the high rate of sexual harassment in tertiary institutions and emphasized that the bill if passed will protect and reassure the students of their rights.

Senate Recommends Death Penalty For Kidnappers


The Senate today, May 4, approved that state governments should enact laws to enable security agencies prosecute kidnappers and other crime related offences in their jurisdictions.

Following a report by its joint committee on Police Affairs, National Security and Intelligence, addressing the unfortunate recurrence of kidnapping and hostage-taking in the country, the Senate recommended that:

Senate Approves Intervention for Commercial Agriculture


 Nigeria 8th Senate is poised to ensure the fulfillment of the long-song diversification of the economy to shift from Oil dependency to becoming agricultural and local content oriented.

The senate, today, May 4, passed for second reading a bill for an Act to establish the National Agricultural Credit Fund to promote commercial Agriculture in Nigeria ensure credit support for production, storage and processing of target commodities, market development and Agricultural Enterprise.

World Press Freedom Day: Saraki lauds Nigerian Media

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Tuesday congratulated all practitioners in the media across the country and the world for their invaluable service to humanity as they celebrate the World Press Freedom Day.

Saraki in a statement signed on his behalf by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja, also hailed all Nigerians on the occasion and said that the freedom of the press also connotes the freedom of individuals to partake in the governance of the country, discuss issues and freely give expression to their dreams and aspiration within the ambience of the law.
