NASS threaten sanction for 20 oil companies for shunning Committee invitation

The Senate on Thursday expressed its displeasure at 20 oil companies operating in Nigeria that failed to appear before its committee in spite of being given over one week notice.

This was disclosed by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi who chaired the joint committee of both chambers during an interactive session with the companies.

Senator Kabiru Marafa Shuns Senate Committee Probe


Senator Kabiru Marafa, representing Zamfara Central on Monday, failed to appear before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, to answer to allegations of misguided statements against the National Assembly.

The senator, was petitioned by two senators, Isah Misau (APC-Bauchi Central) and Matthew Urhoghide (PDP-Edo South) ovee comments in a national dailies that demeaned the reputation of the National Assembly.

FLASH: Funding to be Allocated to National Assembly, NYSC, Military, MDAs and others by Monday

Reports reaching us has it that the current cash melt down suffered by the Federal Government, the military and legislative arms of government is set to be abated from Monday.
At the moment, the severance packages of aides of the 7th National Assembly are yet to be paid, since the expiration of the Assembly in June 2015.

Lack of Funds Hampered our Fight Against B/Haram in 2015 - Military


The Military Chiefs have said that the non-release of the military's Security vote by the Federal Government as captured in the 2015 supplementary budget was working against the efforts of the security agencies tackling Boko Haram insurgency in the North-east.
 
The Security Chiefs made the disclosure on Wednesday, at a closed door meeting with the leadership of the Senate and the chairmen of committees relating to security agencies.

2016 Budget Defense: Power Minister Defends Tariff Increase ‎


Power minister defends tariff increase, says it will increase power.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday in Abuja, defended the increment in tariff saying that it will result to improved power supply. ‎
He spoke after defending the budget of the ministry before the Senate Committee on Power said that investors would pull out if they could not get returns on their investments.

Money Laundering: Buhari Sends Bill to Senate



The Senate on Wednesday received a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari seeking to enact Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Bill 2016 and the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill 2016.

The President of the Senate Bukola Saraki, while reading the letter said that the proposed bill provides for the repeal of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011, as amended in 2012.

Women, ‎the Bedrock of Governance - Oduah


Senator  Stella Oduah the Lawmaker representing Anambra Senatorial district and vice chairman committee on Women Affairs ‎ has described women Affairs as the Bedrock of the society.

She stated this on Wenesday, 27th January 2016 at the inaugural meeting of the committee of women Affairs held at the National Assembly complex ‎Abuja.

‎Tinubu Condemns 2016 Budget Proposal



Senator Oluremi Tinubu ‎( APC Lagos Central) has condemned the 2016 budget proposal of President Muhammadu Buhari  saying it lacks provision for Women development.

The Lawmaker while contributing to the budget consideration stated that the allocations to the Women Affairs Ministry is the least and lacks provision for the welfare and development of women.

$8BN Dividends: Senate Gives NLNG One Week to Provide Evidence of Payment


The Senate on Thursday gave the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) one week to provide evidence of payment of taxes and dividends since the end of the company’s tax holiday in 2009.

This was disclosed  when the NLNG briefed the Senate Committee on Gas and the Senate Committee on Niger Delta on developments in the area.

2016 Budget: Buhari Notifies National Assembly of Corrections


President Muhammadu Buhari has written the National Assembly, notifying the legislative body of the corrected version of the 2016 appropriation bill.

The President of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, read Mr. Buhari's letter at the Senate plenary on Tuesday.

Senate to Commence Consideration of 2016 budget.


The senate will commence consideration of the missing 2016 budget proposal from Tuesday 19th to Thursday 21st of January 2016.

President of the senate Bukola Saraki made this announcement at the beginning of plenary today 13th January 2016.

He called on his colleagues to commence indications on when to make contributions on various areas of the budget.

Following the rumour credited to the leader of the 8th senate Ali Ndume that the 2016 budget is missing from the National Assembly, the senate has refuted such claims.

Senate Decries Outbreak of Lassa Fever



The senate at resumption of plenary on Tuesday, 12th January 2016 decried the outbreak of Lassa Fever in Nigeria.

In a motion moved by Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso of Ogun Central.   Titled: the recent outbreak of Lassa Fever in Nigeria  Co-Spons‎ored by Matthew Urhoghide , T.A Orji, Jonah Jang, Andy Uba and Suleiman Nazif.

They noted that the outbreak of the disease have been observed in about 10 states in Nigeria with 35 death out of 76 suspected cases.
