Senate raises alarm over pending National Assembly elections in states



The Senate on Wednesday, has raised alarm over inability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct National Assembly elections in states where elections were still pending.

This followed a point of order raised by Sen. Ben Bruce (PDP Bayelsa East) questioning why the commission had yet to conduct or elections in the six senatorial districts.

Senatorial elections that were annulled in six senatorial districts: three in Rivers state and one in Imo, Anambra and Kogi States, are yet to be concluded.

NASS gate sealed as Group storm Assembly in protest.



 The gate leading to the National Assembly was on Tuesday, locked down to forestall two groups of protesters from gaining entrance into the National Assembly Complex.

The two group of protesters stormed the National Assembly in protest of myriad of issue bothering on the National Assembly.

PIB set to Pass Second Reading in the 8th Senate


The controversial Petroleum Industry and Governance bill that scaled the sixth and seventh Senate without success is finally set to pass second reading in the 8th Senate.

The bill for an act to provide for the Governance and Institutional framework for the Petroleum Industry and for other matters connected therewith sponsored by Senator Omotayo D. Alsoadura (Ondo Central) was set to pass second reading today but was however stalled for lawmakers to study the bill properly.

NASS threaten sanction for 20 oil companies for shunning Committee invitation

The Senate on Thursday expressed its displeasure at 20 oil companies operating in Nigeria that failed to appear before its committee in spite of being given over one week notice.

This was disclosed by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi who chaired the joint committee of both chambers during an interactive session with the companies.

Fuel scarcity would have been over if deregulation was allowed in 2012 - Lawmaker

Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa, (PDP Abia North) on Tuesday, urged the Federal Government to apologise to Nigerians for the hardship occasioned by scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Ohuabunwa told newsmen that it was members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that championed mass protests when the previous government attempted to deregulate the sector.

OpenNASS: Senate sets new deadline to publish NASS budget breakdown



The Senate on Monday in Abuja, set a new deadline for publishing the breakdown of its N115 billion budget for 2016.

The Spokes Person of the Senate Sen. Sabi Abdullahi, disclosed to news men that the breakdown of the National Assembly budget would be contained in the 2016 Budget details that would be released.
