Senate allocates N10bn for IDPs relocation, resettlement

The Senate has directed its Committee on Appropriation to allocate N10 billion from the Service Wide Vote for relocation and resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.

Sequel to a five prayer motion moved on Tuesday by the Leader of the Senate Mohammed Ali-Ndume and co sponsored by seven other senators.


The Senate  also urged the Victims Support Fund to allocate a reasonable amount from the fund to for immediate relocation and resettlement of IDPs and urged the Federal Government to release grains from the Strategic Grain Reserve to the affected states.


A letter of appreciation would also be written by the relevant committee of the Senate to the Embassies of the countries where Nigerian refugees were hosted.


Earlier, while moving the motion, Sen. Ndume noted that the IDPs who were hitherto residents of the communities had lost everything they owned to insurgency.


He said that most of the resident ran to neighboring counties of Niger, Chad and Cameroun and were now set to return home.


``For the IDPs to return home, they need immediate and interim financial and material assistance in terms of cash transfer and food relief to start their lives all over.


``They require this intervention before the proposed advent of the North East Development Commission, Save the School Initiative or any other initiative or intervention. He said
