Senate swears in Ohuabunwa, as Saraki wears Aba clothes


The Senate on Wednesday swore in Mao Ohuabunwa (PDP Abia North) as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ohuabunwa who collected his certificate of return on Tuesday from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) won his rerun election on March 5.


Ohuabunwa defeated former governor of Abia State Orji Uzo Kalu of the Progressives Peoples’ Alliance, (PPA); David Onuoha-Bourdex of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA) and Nnenna Okoro of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recall that Ohuabunwa’s election was on Dec. 10, 2016, nullified by a Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, the Imo State capital and ordered a rerun.

Ohuabunwa’s election had been challenged by former Abia governor and a candidate in the election, Orji Kalu alleging `unprecedented irregularities’.


Meanwhile, in keeping true to his promise of patronizing made in Nigeria goods, the President of the Senate Bukola Saraki on Tuesday appeared for plenary fully dressed in made in Nigeria attire.

Saraki who is usually seen on suit and `agbada’ was seen today wearing a traditional igbo chieftaincy attire and a red tradition cap, all made in Aba, Abia State.
