Procurement Act: Saraki Tasks Colleagues on Implementation


Senate president Bukola Saraki on Thursday urged his colleagues to ensure that oversight functions are taking seriously to secure the full implementation of the procurement act as amended.

He disclosed this after a clause by clause consideration of the amendment bill that paved its passage for third reading.

#AfricanChildDay: Senate moves to ensure full implementation of Child Rights


The senate on Thursday called for full implementation of the child right act 2003 and the Universal Basic Education act of 2004 to ensure that the rights and welfare of children and their compulsory education rights are upheld.

This preceded a motion titled 2016 International Day of the African Child Conflict and Crisis in Africa: Protecting all Children’s Rights sponsored by Oluremi Tinubu and 8 other lawmakers.

Niger Delta Avengers: Saraki Preaches Dialogue


Senate president Bukola Saraki has called on the aggrieved Niger Delta Avengers to sheath their swords and embrace dialogue rather than violence to save the environment from further damage of eco system and the nation at large.

This was contained in a speech to mark anniversary of the 8th senate, he also reiterated this while addressing questions from Nigerians on social media in a video chat.

ADDRESS BY HON. SPEAKER, RT. HON. DOGARA YAKUBU HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ON ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE 8TH HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ON 9TH JUNE, 2016

1. Honourable Colleagues, today, 9th June, 2016 marks one year anniversary of the inauguration of the 8th House of Representatives.
2. Permit me to request that we cast our minds back to that historic day when we were sworn in as members of the House of Representatives in this hallowed chambers. That event was greeted with a lot of hope and expectations from Nigerians after a common sense revolution swept aside the ruling party and ushered in the opposition into office for the first time in Nigeria’s modern political history. There was not just a change of guards at the Executive level, but also at the Legislature as well. The change involved both political parties and personnel.

On the 9th of June 2015 the 8th National Assembly was inaugurated and Senator Bukola Saraki and Senator Ike Ekweremmadu  swiftly emerged as senate president and deputy while Yakubu Dogara and Yusuf Suleiman Lasu as the speaker and deputy speaker of the house of representative.

As the 8th Assembly marks its first year today, the Chairman of  National Assembly Bukola Saraki in a speech presented to mark the Anniversary congratulated his colleagues and noted the key achievements so far while urging them to do more to serve the nation better.

Farmers, Herdsmen Conflict: Senate to Find Solution


Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has appealed to herdsmen and farmers across the country to maintain peace as the National Assembly is ready to proffer lasting solution to the perennial clashes over grazing by cattle. 

Speaking today when a group of herdsmen from Kautal Hore Socio-Cultural Association, Jigawa State branch visited him, the Senate President who described the perennial clashes between the farmers and herdsmen as unfortunate, also appealed to the herdsmen to maintain peace at all times.
