Senate Decries Outbreak of Lassa Fever



The senate at resumption of plenary on Tuesday, 12th January 2016 decried the outbreak of Lassa Fever in Nigeria.

In a motion moved by Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso of Ogun Central.   Titled: the recent outbreak of Lassa Fever in Nigeria  Co-Spons‎ored by Matthew Urhoghide , T.A Orji, Jonah Jang, Andy Uba and Suleiman Nazif.

They noted that the outbreak of the disease have been observed in about 10 states in Nigeria with 35 death out of 76 suspected cases.

The Senate however resolved to Condole with the families of Nigerians who have lost th‎eir relations to outbreak of this disease.

Invite the health minister and other relevant health agencies to brief the senate.

Urge the Federal Government, health Agencies, NGOs to carry out holistic and aggressive sensitization at markets, restaurants, neighbourhoods, communities, offices, schools and that the public in states affected and not affected be educated on preventive measures.

They lastly urged Nigerians to be very conscious and adhere to rules of personal hygiene by putting more efforts to rid the environment of rodents and report any suspected case.

Saraki in his remarks commended the sponsors of the motion and called f‎or immediate action to curb further spread.

One minute Silence was observed for Nigerians who have lost their lives to Lassa fever.
